Great American Cleanup™ Kicks Off in Gulfport’s West Side Park

Keep America Beautiful, which rebuilt the Biloxi Town Green last year, was back on the Coast on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, coordinating more than a thousand volunteers who worked through the day to take West Side Park back from Katrina and make it a center of the community again.

Gulfport Mayor Brent Warr, Keep American Beautiful President Ray Empson, Federal Environmental Executive Ed Pinero were among the dignitaries attending the 2007 Great American Cleanup™ kick off effort.

Lou Augello, Assistant Zone Manager, and Matt Almond, District Sales Manager represented American Honda Motor Co., Inc., one of Keep America Beautiful’s national sponsors. Buddy Feeney, General Manager of Pat Peck Honda kept the donated ice and refreshments cold inside the in-bed trunk of a Honda Ridgeline truck that was displayed next to the food station for the crowd of volunteers.

By Tuesday afternoon, the volunteers had already planted new shrubs, cleaned up the area and were laying new sod. Dozens of new park benches were also set up on the site.
